2008, March - Solvang, CA : Century Ride - Andy, Carl and Kimmi went to the Solvang Century Ride in Solvang, CA, March 8, 2008. Kimmi was the spectator along with her auntie, Dolly.

Some History: The very first "Solvang Century" was held in 1983 to raise funds for a club debt. In 1982, the SCOR Cardiac Cyclists Club sent 14 riders on a non-stop relay ride from the Avenue of the Stars in Century City to the Avenue of Flags in New York City in 12 days, 1 hour and 50 minutes. While most of the expenses were paid for, the bottom line was that SCOR owed $2000.00. Up until 1983 the primary club fund-raisers had been paper and aluminum can drives! It was clear that it would take a lot of newspapers and cans to raise $2000.00!

Instead, SCOR decided to take a club ride it had been doing in Solvang since 1975 and open it up to the public. The result was 300 riders and a ride was born. Although inexperienced in putting on rides, the ride worked well enough; 1200 riders came the following year! Since then the ride has grown to 3700 riders in 1998. A second venue was opened in Santa Maria in 1989. A half-century option was added in 1994 due to continued requests for a shorter route.

Over the years, SCOR has always striven to emphasize safety (we were one of the first rides to make helmets mandatory) as well as service. Our accident rate of one broken bone per 224,000 man-miles ridden in the last 19 years is lower than the accident rate training where you live, suggesting that you as a rider are safer in our rides despite the larger number of participants. The money we have raised goes to heart related projects, Camp Bon Couer, Make a Wish Foundation, Six TEAM SCORs in the Race Across AMerica (RAAM) Relay Division, the AXA World Team Ride, Camp Del Corazon on Catalina Island and Camp Taylor.

2008, Jan - Orlando, Florida : Disney Half Marathon and Marathon - Andy and I went to Orlando, Florida to partake in the Half Marathon and Marathon events the weekend of January 13, 2008. We had an amazing time. It was Kimmi's FIRST 1/2 marathon... 3 hours... with part of the race taking you through the Disney Magic Kingdom. All of the Disney characters were out on the route and Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy kicked off the start! There were over 38,000 runners in the half marathon. On Sunday, the marathon had less than half of the runners. Some runners chose to do both races... Andy did great considering he is still recooperating from a foot injury in July.

2007 - Hamburg, Germany : Hamburg BG Triathlon World Championships - On Sept 2, 2007, Andy did a great job at this event despite his injury. He didn't run for 6 weeks prior to this event to give his foot time to heal. He ran the event although painful and completed with an amazing time.

The world championships took place in Germany for the first time in triathlon history. The Hamburg BG Triathlon World Championships from 30 August to 02 September 2007 brought over 8.000 athletes from over 60 different nations to the Hanseatic City. In order to make Germany’s second biggest city aware of this sports highlight the official WC-Dome was installed in the river Binnenalster.

From 03 August 2007, the "world’s most beautiful natural swimming pool" was shrouded daily in a spectacular light from 09.00 pm to midnight. All four sides of the WC Dome were lit up to arouse WC atmosphere within the complete city centre. During daytime strolling inhabitants and visitors could note a digital countdown highlighting the remaining time until the start of the world championships.

The WC-Dome consisted of semicircular and translucent tent construction with a cupola 7.8 metres high. The dome was fastened to pontoons of 150 square metres, designed with the official logos and anchored about 70 metres off the landing docks of the Binnenalster. The main component of this unprecedented project was a spectacular 360° laser show by one of the biggest colour laser systems in the world. The total laser and light power was 59.000 watts alone. The idea and complete concept of the illuminations was developed by the artists Frank Dauer and Roman Mundhenk. Their storyboard was implemented and animated by computer scientists Dirk Grafe and Lennart Wietzke from LaserStudio (www.laserstudio.de). To project the forms and figures onto the cupola of the WC Dome two different laser sources, a sophisticated mirror system and a special micro controller, which was only developed for this project, were being used.
